Portland Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines Newsletter

Comrades and friends,

It’s that time of year again. May Day - International Worker’s Day is upon us and the struggle for justice and peace is only more pressing.  In light of the current assaults of the Trump administration, people of color - especially African communities, Native American and indigenous peoples, immigrants, and the LGBTQI community are experiencing an increase in violence, exploitation, displacement, discrimination and deportation. In the Philippines, on the heels of the fourth round of peace talks between the Government of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), a civil war killing thousands persists without justice for the masses.

This May 1st and 2nd, PortlandCHRP would like to invite you to join us in a series of events as Portland along with the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines hosts international peace advocates from the Philippines as part of the JustPeacePH Tour 2017: Promoting Peace and Justice in the Philippines. This US-wide Peace Tour addresses the root causes of the civil war in the Philippines. Portland will be hosting three human rights defenders from different communities at the front lines of the struggle.
